We strive to find the most perfect, loving homes possible for the pets that come into rescue with us. Our successes are due to the joint efforts of our volunteers and the individuals that adopt and take these deserving pets into their homes and lives.
We love hearing from our adopters with tales and stories of them and their newest family members. Pictures and "Adoption Tales" may be submitted any time after a pet has been adopted. Follow up reports, stories and tales are also welcome. Send your letters to Adoption Tales.
This page contains "Tales" of dogs adopted during this year, 2006.

ARCHIE, TOBY, TIGGER, ABBY, & FANNY Dear Foster Mother,
New momma is very tired today, so I am
writing while she sleeps. All the dogs have messages for you, but
they don't read and write as well as I do, so I am sending all their
messages and I want to tell you about our trip home.
First from me: I want you to know that
I will always love you very much, you are the best Foster Mother
ever! I was very glad to see you when we came to adopt Fannie!
I want you to know that I will take very
good care of Fanny, I like her very much. She is young, but I think
she will be a fast learner. I made sure that Abby was mostly nice
to her on the way home, and that she knew where the water was and
that she got her share of food. I also helped her to find a good
spot to sleep, Abby grumbled, but she slept near Fanny all the way
home, so I think they will be just fine.
From Toby: I like Fanny, but did you
have to send another little yapper? I don't think you need to send
any more! I like the toys you sent, new momma says we will play
with some later this afternoon. You can come and get Archie any
time, he is a bully. I like everyone else just fine, the walks here
are very good, good smells everywhere. I am the guard dog, I
protect everyone, even Archie the bully. I love you and I wish I
could have gone on the trip to adopt Fannie and gotten to give you
lots of kisses!
From Archie: Thank for letting Fanny
come live with us; she is fun. I like all the little dogs; we play
and play. You can send more little dogs any time. When you bring
more little dogs you can take Toby home, he is a bully. Good, good
smells here, lots of room to run and play. I am the guard dog here,
I protect everyone, even Toby the bully. You sent good toys. We
will play with some of them soon. New momma says we have to share;
I do not want to share with Toby, Toby should go home; there is not
enough room here for Toby. I miss you, I love you, thank you for
helping me find this good home. Toby does not appreciate this good
home;you should take him home.
From Tigger: I like Fanny, but I'm not
sure how many more I can take care of. I will do my best though!
From Sam: I was so happy to see you!
You are one of my favorite people and I love you a lot. Thank you
for letting Fanny come live with us, we are going to have a lot of
fun, we will play and play. She doesn't eat as fast as I do, so
maybe I can get some of her food, that would be good. She can run
with us, it is very fun when we all run together, you should send
some more dogs to live with us, then we can all run together. I
would like you to send some more girl dogs, ones that like to run
and don't eat very fast.
From Abby: It was nice to see you
again. You are a smart lady; you saw what a beautiful tail I have.
It is difficult being a princess if people don't recognize the
royalty in me, you must be very smart. I am not real happy that
Fanny has come to live with us. I am going to watch her very
closely, I am not going to play with her... very much or let her
touch my toys... Except for one... or maybe two. I don't
think she should sleep on the bed, except maybe on the
corner... or maybe under the covers, but only if it is very cold.
I will not have anything to do with her toys.... but I do want
to look that pink one over, I do like pink. Anyway if she is going
to live her she better follow my rules... at least most of the
time. I think you should come and get her... but you
can wait a few days, I know you are busy. I will get back to you
about when you should come. You can wait to hear from me before you
come.
From Fanny: This is a neat place, there
is plenty of food and fresh water, the smells are great and there is
a huge yard to run in. Mr. Joe is very nice to me, he says he will
teach me to be a proper schnauzer. Foster Momma - am I a schnauzer?
The trip home was lots of fun, I slept
near Abby and she helped to keep me warm. Mr. Joe and Sam also
slept close, I am very excited to be part of a pack. Abby is kind
of cranky at times, but I am wearing her down. Tigger is like a dog
momma and is very nice to me, she is not cranky. Toby likes me and
Archie really likes me, but they don't like each other. Mr. Joe is
helping me learn all about this place, when we walk on a leash, he
walks near me. We play and play, I stole one of Abby's toys this
morning, but she pretended not to notice, I think she is only
pretending to be cranky, she doesn't snap and most of the time she
forgets to growl at all. I think this will be a very good place to
live "forever", but I will miss you a lot!
That is what everyone had to say to
you. We all send love and want you to know that we are taking good
care of new momma. There don't seem to be any bear here, so I am
thinking of taking up cougar hunting. This is a good "forever"
home, so please don't worry about us, lots off food and fresh water,
good places to sleep and lots of toys. None of us that are your
foster children will ever forget you.
Love to Foster Father too! ~
Joe

HOOCH We adopted Hooch, a Mastiff,
on October 15 from Ahimsa Rescue... We love him so much and we thank the
adoption committee for allowing us to make him a part of our family. He
is fitting in extremely well and is going to be a spoiled pooch! Coy
(the Basset) likes Hooch. He wants to play and Hooch just
sleeps...it's cute. I woke up this morning and they were snuggled
together on the love seat. Hooch is really good... he follows us around
EVERYWHERE. We love him so much. He and coy are going to be
in a dog costume contest in Lowell on Saturday. |

CHARLIE Charlie is absolutely wonderful. Charlie and Suka (our big puppy) are getting along quite well. They love to play tug-a-war with their stuffed toys. Charlie has taken over Suka’s larger crate and hides all their toys in there. He adores people, and they adore him as well. He doesn't like to be alone, he loves to be with the family or Suka. He can be barking and playing with Suka one moment, but when we pick him up he just melts in our arms. I told everyone that we should have called him marshmallow. Charlie is very playful and loves to be outside. He does very well on the leash too. He adores the kids and smothers them with kisses. He really has taken to my husband Joe too. Today was the first day he gave me his belly to rub. We just love him so much. I miss him when I'm not home. I couldn't imagine not having him. We couldn't ask for a better dog! Thanks again for everything! ~ Tina, Joe, Alexa, Colin and Juliette |

SLOOPY II Hi Teresa, Everywhere Sloopy goes people fall in love with her. The teacher of her puppy class just loves her and wants to take her home. We have even had a public city bus pull over mid-route so the bus driver could ask what kind of dog she is and comment on how cute she is. She is a very well behaved puppy and is so easy going, friendly and happy-basically the opposite of our other dog (who is high strung, anxious and always sure that people are out to get him). Thank you for providing her with such a great place to spend her first few months. I think that makes such a difference in how dogs turn out! She is absolutely adorable, and we love her. ~ Lissa and Cris |

ZEFF We are so happy with Zeff. Zeff has a nice bed indoors so he can sleep in the nice cool air conditioning. We took Zeff to Southern Agriculture, and he did VERY well, although he did try to snag some treats that were in open boxes on the lower shelves. We were extremely pleased with Zeff's manners. We took Zeff to meet his Gaga and PawPaw (Danny's parents), and they adored Zeff . They are so proud to have another grandpuppy. Afterwards we went to Ace Hardware and bought him a kiddie wadding pool. We placed it under a big shade tree in the backyard. He has taken many dunks. We take Zeff a lot of places because he is SO well behaved. He has also been to Danny's work and Bernie's work. We are considering enrolling Zeff in the Ritz Barklton once a week. It is a doggy daycare. We thought it would be a good way for Zeff to maintain his excellent social skills. We want to thank you for
trusting us with Zeff, we could tell that you loved him very much and we
promise to love and take very good care of Zeff. Thanks for all you do
for the canine kingdom. Dog kisses, ~ Bernie and

SAM Total amazement! That is a description of Sam's reaction to his new home. He saw a heard of deer last night and "it was a jaw dropper". He slept on the bed with us. We all woke to the sound of some disturbed ravens and coyotes howling, again total amazement. Sam and Joe are really becoming "buddies". The princess doesn't always want to go out, but Joe is always ready to go with Sam. Happy, happy dogs! Dr. Willard is in love with Sam! Says he has the best disposition of any dog he has seen in years. He can't get over that Sam's a rescue, and someone who "lost" him didn't move heaven and earth to get him back. He is amazed that I got 2 excellent pets from Ahimsa Rescue and wishes Ahimsa was here. Dr. Willard will recommend Ahimsa Rescue to anyone looking for a pet; however not many people are as crazy as I and will drive 2 days to adopt a pet. Dr. Willard even looked up the web site and commented on how excellent it was, very good photos, and he loved the bios. I don't think he believed that I wrote them. I got a kick out of that. Thank you for all your kind words. If my dogs are happy then I am happy. I do think that the best thing that ever happened to any of your dogs was when they came into your hands!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks again for putting Sam into our lives, we will send pictures soon! ~ God bless, Nancy |

WALLY Wally is my first experience at adopting an adult dog, and what a great experience it is! When Wally's eyes first met mine it was love at first sight. He is sweet natured, intelligent, and funny boy. Wally has a lot of neighborhood dog friends and people friends. He likes to play on the bed first thing in the morning; he gets so excited that his legs start flying in every direction. He likes to hide his head between the pillows and peek out to see if I'm watching. Wally and I also enjoy gardening together in the flower garden. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be Wally's new guardian and companion. I am also grateful to Wally for the love and trust he has given me. Wally brings out the child in me with his antics and play. What a gift! Now if I could just get him to quit hogging the bed!!! ~ Linda |

MAGGIE (formerly Cende) Maggie is doing excellent!!! She gets more playful and confident everyday. She loves her walks and loves to play outside with the kids. We are going to try out the boat this weekend and see what she thinks. There is a huge pond at the park that we take her to, we took her to the waters edge and she almost walked right in. With that being said hopefully she will do ok at the lake. We cant wait to find out.
We took
her to the vet last week and got her started on her heartworm
preventative; our vet wanted me to relay a message to you and the vet
that you use. He said that he was very, very impressed with Maggie's
surgery and incision, and the way that she was cared for. He said it is
very rare that he see such a healthy dog come from adoption organization
or foster home. |

SALLY
Sally
has had numerous new experiences and handled them with ease and
confidence. She had the opportunity to visit my friend Michelle
and her Boxer named Abby. Sally and Abby played like old friends.
Yesterday was a big day for Sally because she accompanied me to work
where she got to meet all my coworkers, the in-house animals, and
numerous horses. Sally handled and adapted to everything with ease.
Yesterday evening we had to travel to a local cow that was down from a
difficult delivery. Sally encountered all those doggie friends, plus
ran in the fields with the cows, and she even licked the baby cows. She
likes all this stimulus; she never leaves my side farther than about
30-45 feet. She slept like a rock that night. I purchased a nice doggie
bed, but as far as she is concerned, my bed is the only doggie bed she
needs. Sally loves it at mom's; there is lots of stimulus there. Sally
is still trying to sniff the kitties there; however, they don't want to
be bothered yet and hide when they see her coming. UPDATE, November 2006: Just wanted to say a quick hello and touch base, its been awhile. Sally is still doing great, still has the identity crisis that she is a horse, but bless her heart, I love her for it. Getting excited bout the Christmas season, already starting to think of Xmas gifts for her. She has pointed me towards this enormous bone at Petsmart, and a couple of promising new toys. ~ Christian

MUNCHKIN Dear Rose Marie & Everyone at Ahimsa Rescue,
Ah-Choo! This place called Virginia is
pollen city. Thankfully, I have had no bad skin reactions. I am on
Frontline and Interceptor on a regular schedule, too. We eat
vegetarian dog food. Can you believe it? These humans are so
trendy, but as far as I am concerned designer vegetarian food is so
passe. Give me meat. Send me a subscription to Vogue. This place
is hick city.
Oh, and there is a cat. I think she is
the smartest one of the bunch.
My new best friend is a Scottish girl
named Meghan, or Meggie as she is known by the fabulous bling collar
she wears. They've ordered one for me, too, in pink with rhinestone
letters that say "Munchkin." Meggie just had tail surgery last week
because she had something called a histiocytoma. She is now missing
the last inch of her tail. She is depressed and won't look in the
mirror, but I think she will still be the fashionista that she has
always been. Needless to say, the entire house was hysterical with
this surgical "experience." Just glad it wasn't me.
And I met the horses. Justin and
Gracie. Two complete lunatics, but they make a lot of interesting
smelling poop.
These people have a hot tub. Looks like
a bath tub to me, so I don't get anywhere near it.
So, that is the scoop on me.
Love and kisses,
HRH Princess Munchkin of Albemarle,
Duchess of , Empress of the Free World

Sadie says hello. She is doing great. She goes at top speed ALL the time. She plays in the shower after we shower. I have muddy dachshund footprints in my shower all the time. She jumps on everything and there's no way to stop her. She goes at top speed and just goes flying through the air before we can catch her. She is a mess. We built her steps up into the bed and after showing her one time she runs up the steps now. She also has learned how to charm my husband (she sleeps with her head across his neck). Sadie loves all her new playmates. She and Cesar (the long-haired Chihuahua) are best friends and run and run through the house chasing each other. So far she has eaten saline nose spray, a cell phone, and a wallet. She loves toys too but the other things smell like her owners. Thanks for letting us adopt her. ~ Sydney |

ELI
Eli was discovered when he was near death after his guardian passed away. Someone locked little Eli (along with his Yorkie companion and friend) outdoors for days in extreme cold weather conditions without food, water or shelter. When Eli's cries were finally discovered by a kind and compassionate neighbor it was too late for his little companion and friend; however, Eli was rescued and delivered to Ahimsa Rescue Foundation. Eli has been adopted to a wonderful family. Please read Eli's heartwarming letter below:
Hi! I'm enjoying life. My mom says I'm a prince. I believe I'm getting the 'royal' treatment. Mom calls Margo little princess. I think I'll let Ernie be the prince and I'll be the King! Mom says she thinks I'm gaining weight. My little tummy never gets hungry. I have to watch my weight because of my bad knee but I need lots of nutrition. I have these cool steps that go up to all the furniture. Dad made a step for the bedroom and I have two sets of stairs in the living room. Sometimes I stay in the beds on the floor but I'm on mom or dads lap whenever they sit down. This doggie door thing is the greatest! I just go outside and sit in the sun whenever I feel like it. Sometimes Margo gets me to go outside with her. The squirrels like to tease us. Someday we'll get them! We all went for our first real walk yesterday. I really had fun. I showed mom that I am the perfect little gentleman on the leash. Margo & Ernie got so excited when they heard mom say "WALK" I think I'm going to enjoy that part of the day. Mom said she would get a stroller for me so I can ride in case my knees get tired. She said that is part of the 'royal' treatment. We are all getting a bath today. I'm not sure about that. Margo didn't like that word and got all nervous but Ernie got excited. I'll have to decide for myself if I like it or not. Mom said I get my own special towel with puppies on it just like the other pups have. I love to be brushed and fussed over so mom said I'll have long beautiful hair in no time. Thanks for helping me find my family. They love me sooooooooooo much and I love them too. ~ Eli |
