Adoption Tales

We strive to find the most perfect, loving homes possible for the pets that come into rescue with us. Our successes are due to the joint efforts of our volunteers and the individuals that adopt and take these deserving pets into their homes and lives.

We love hearing from our adopters with tales and stories of them and their newest family members. Pictures and "Adoption Tales" may be submitted any time after a pet has been adopted. Follow up reports, stories and tales are also welcome.

MARY ANN

Teresa,
Mary Ann helped us set up & decorate the Christmas Tree. She helped put her ornament on the tree and then she thought she could eat it. She also hung her stocking on the mantle. Thank you for allowing us to adopt Mary Ann. She is a wonderful addition to our family.    ~ Sincerely,  John & Melissa

BEANS (formerly Seth)

Hi Teresa,
Things are going great with Seth!  I just love him to pieces.  I did rename him though.  I changed it to Beans.  I call him my little Beanie Weenie.  He is truly a joy, and he and Abbie have become best buddies.  She loves to make him chase her, and it's funny to watch him try to keep up with her.  They both were playing in the backyard today, and they treed a squirrel...  it was too funny.  Thank you again for allowing us to adopt him!!  I just love that lil guy!!

FLICK

Dear Teresa,

This is Flick. I've been meaning to write, but you know all the excuses. I'm sending you a new picture of me at a birthday party for a little human person. My people invited them over, and the little human people were really nice to me. I like living with my people. They love me a lot. I can tell. Thanks for finding this home for me.

Hi Teresa,

Rascal is doing very well.  He and Sophie have bonded very well.  Sometimes he thinks he's Sophie, he likes to get in her bed.  Very funny.

SKIPPER ( formerly Tina)

Hi Teresa,

I just wanted to thank you for my new home. My new Mom and sister love me so much.  They took me to see Dr. Broadfoot.  Dr. Broadfoot thinks I'm well loved also. I'm starting to find my way around my house.  The food is good and they have a drinking fountain so I can have fresh water any time I want.  I have two cat friends - we are working out the details, but they are ok.

Sincerely,  ~ Skipper W.

BELLA (formerly Lollie)

A SPECIAL FAMILY INDEED!

Bella the Deaf Boxer is now Bella, the deaf pampered pet. Bella's guardian is a deaf lady who teaches the deaf and has adopted a deaf African American teenager and a deaf Boston Terrier. Bella was adopted to Carol Ann Broderson, who lives a 1,000 miles away from Ahimsa Rescue Foundation, but this is the place she was meant to be.

Carol Ann, who is the director of the North Side School District "Program for the Deaf" in San Antonio, Texas, and who directs the nationally recognized program "Dancing for the Deaf," has a special family indeed. After years of living single without anyone to worry about but herself, Carol's life now centers on giving her daughter and two dogs, all of which are deaf and adopted, a good home. Carol Ann only had to look out for herself. She came and went as she pleased, traveled abroad and ran long distance in her spare time. On workdays, she counseled deaf students. When not at work, she poured her energy into the deaf dance company she formed.

Carol Ann's family of four now includes Terisha, a 16 year old who captured Carol Ann's heart when she did one-on-one deaf counseling with her; Dallas, the 14 year old Boston who captured Carol Ann's heart when she found her as a rejected puppy and, of course, Bella the Deaf Boxer. Carol Ann knew when she saw Bella's picture on Ahimsa Rescue Foundation's website—white, with one blue eye and one that is brown—that her heart had been captured again. So despite the incredible odds, she adopted another special deaf being to come live with her.

Since Carol Ann is deaf and teaches the deaf, Bella now knows all her obedience signals in sign language, including the sign for "I love you."

MARY ANN

Teresa,  I wanted to share with you some pictures of Mary Ann on her first fishing trip. We went to Nocona Texas for the weekend for some fishing and this was her first time on the boat in water. She did very well. We came upon a flock of ducks and they flew over us and she had never seen any before. We thought she was going to jump out of the boat. She had a good time and was tired by the end of the trip. Thank you for allowing us to adopt Mary Ann.   ~ Sincerely,  Melissa & John

Let's go fishing!

I think I see some fish.

You call that a catch?

TYLER

Hi Teresa,  Tyler had another grand adventure in May this year too! He got to travel all the way to Chicago to meet a red heeler dog named Charlie that we met on Dogster.com long, long ago!. My mom and I took Tyler and drove all the way to Chicago!! Was about a 12 hour drive and Tyler is such an easy dog to travel with! While in Chicago (actually out in the suburbs), Tyler got to go to the Dog Park every day and play with all sorts of new doggie friends! He also got to go to the Dupree County Pet Expo! He loved the dog park the most! He would run to the gate and greet every new dog that came in! He was dubbed the official gate keeper at the park while we were there! LOL We spent quite a bit of time there, it was just so amazing to see all the dogs socialize together so well, didn't see a single fight the whole time! He also had a wonderful visit with his friend Charlie, the red heeler. We stayed at their house for 4 nights and they became instant buddies! We are hoping to go visit them again next spring!

So as you can see, Tyler stays plenty busy, has quite a social life, and is an aspiring athlete these days! We have Obedience on Wednesday nights and Agility on Thursday nights, and then we practice at home (or on walks) practically every day too! I built some equipment for my backyard, so we get to practice at home. Wish you could see Tyler out there on the field running the course! He just has so much fun with it and he's so incredibly smart, he's just amazing!!!

We will also be assisting with the seasonal Monday night Dog Obedience Training classes this fall with the PC Dog Training Club. Oh, and the Dog Club is having an all weekend 'bring your dog' campout at Kaw Lake coming up later this month too that we'll be going to!! I have to look at my calendar these days to keep Tyler's schedule straight!! LOL

I want to thank you again so much for letting me adopt Tyler back in 2005. He is such a joy and we have so much fun together! Everybody that meets Tyler just falls in love with him instantly... human and canine alike! He's quite an amazing dog!!

~  Thanks, Becki and Tyler

MARY ANN

Teresa,  Mary Ann has been growing non stop since we got her home. The last time she was weighed she weighed 41 pounds. She has learned to sit up on her butt. She will do anything for a treat and she learns quickly. We think she is part Bassett because of her long body and big paws but not sure what else. It really does not matter because she is the sweetest thing ever. We could not have asked for a better behaved dog and a quick learner as well. Mary Ann went swimming for the first time last week end but she did not like it to well. She has had a playmate the last week because my step son's dachshund was here with him. They had the best time and played all the time. Mary Ann always followed him around and had to be near him constantly. Attached are some of the pictures I took of them. She is a beautiful girl and we just absolutely love her. I can not thank you enough for allowing us to adopt her.

JOURNEY

Hi Paula,

Well I have 2 super happy dogs cuddling on the couch as I write you. They are the best of buddies and I am so pleased how much they like each other and get along great. I house sit each week for a friend with 2 ridgebacks and we were there Sunday til yesterday. Journey acted as though she has lived there her whole life! She takes everything in absolute stride and is ready for anything and everything! She has now met all of my client dogs and after a feisty greeting establishing her BIG little self she is fine and then wants to play. She is so fun and sure of herself. I also have never seen such an athlete before! She is amazing... runs faster than the speed of light, leaps and turns on a dime, and can out maneuver any dog we have met so far! A friend has a huge fenced yard with a sea of lawn and Journey loves our play dates there! She is quite the guard dog and has found her voice in California! We are already learning clicker training and she LOVES training time!

She is great in the car and travels so well. She really is just the right dog for Lexi and I. She is so outgoing and loves meeting people. My friends love her too. Thank you again for meeting me and taking the time to make sure we could get Journey on board. She was such the trooper that day. I was very proud of her! It was a pleasure to get to meet you and I will stay in touch and send Journey updates. She sends kisses and says she misses all of you but is having fun in Ca.!  ~   Andee

HILDE

Hi Teresa, Things are going well. I signed them both up together for obedience class as Jayce seems to have misplaced his manners since Hilde got here. They mind for the most part, but sometimes it is hard to get their attention when they are too busy trying to decided who is going to get out the door 1st after me. They have settled in quite nicely together and have a routine down, and we walk in the early morning.   We love her death.    ~  Thanks, Shelley

HOLLY (formerly Tippy)

Hi Teresa,

We just wanted to give you an update on Holly aka Tippy. She's doing very well, we're one big family. She loves to be in the back yard and she begs to go outside just to chill in the grass or the kids little sandbox. Thanks again for giving us a chance with adoption.

~   Sincerely, The Garrett's.

ANDY (formerly ANDRESS)

Hello Teresa, I wish I had a movie camera instead of a camera to show you all the crazy things Andy does. He's settled in really fast and has fairly taken over around here. He's glued to me all the time (separation anxiety).  He really is so smart. We were camping in the mountains last week and we went for a hike.  I spotted some young cow elk thru the trees. Andy was focused on me so I couldn't get him to look at them. I followed them up the mountainside while making encouraging noises hoping Andy would catch on and track them. That is just what happened. He caught their scent at some point, ran up after them, ran back to me, and barked at me to "hurry up, I'm on to something!". He repeated this several times, smelling their fresh hoof prints, so I know it was no accident. Of course they left us behind soon enough and we went home tired and happy.

Andy learns fast and is so happy to be here. I got your yellow envelope out to check on his paperwork you had prepared for us.  Andy came over, smelled it carefully, and got a worried look on his face. Then he kissed me all over and would not let me read the papers.  In fact he laid on them hiding them from me. I was shocked because it sure looked like he thought maybe I was thinking of returning him. I put the papers away for a minute, held him, and told him how much I loved him; that he was in his forever home. Then he laid calmly on the bed while I looked at the papers. Andy is the greatest, my best friend!    ~  Thank you, Monica

LILLY ANN

Jim and Lilly's favorite pastime: coffee in the morning.  Lilly Ann is one of the Bassett/Boston Terrier puppies adopted in 2006.

ARIEL

Hi Paula, Ariel is doing absolutely fantastic. No mistakes in the house. She is sleeping in my bed at night.  We have been going on walks everyday with our biggest one last night for an hour. We are enjoying each others company very much.
Thanks you,  ~ Malorie

BUNKER

Hello Teresa, Bunker is doing great. He is a big baby. He still gets in my lap when I sit in the floor. He doesn't realize that he is getting WAY too big for that. But of course I encourage him. He weighs 65 lbs now and is growing like a weed. They say he'll hit 75 to 80 lbs. He loves to walk and ride. He is fast becoming spoiled so he fits in the with rest of the kids. He is fantastic. He is amazing. He got too rough with Jadee the other day, knocking her down.  She started crying and he sat beside her and didn't move until she stopped crying. It was so sweet. He felt bad. He is a Great boy.

COLLEEN and CLANCY

Hi Teresa,
Just wanted to drop you a line and tell you how Colleen and Clancy are getting along. They're both in beginner obedience class, but we've had to separate them into different classes because they're much more interested in playing with each other than they are in paying attention to the instructor's words of wisdom!

They've become the darlings of the neighborhood and one of our neighbors who is retired stops over every day to walk them while we're at work. That means they get at least three walks every day!

We will be forever grateful to you for being their rescuer. ~ Paula

Bunker

Hi Teresa,
Bunker is fantastic.... He has to be the best dog ever... He is sitting and shaking. He goes everywhere he can with me. He still sleeps in his room and still has never made a peep at night. He's the best. Very loving, and really playful. Jadee likes to ride him, and he lets her. Thank you very much for letting us have him. He is a great member of our family...

Dooley

Hello Folks,
Our new little angel "Doolie-Boy"is doing wonderfully. He and Mr. Davyes are bonded, and they play together constantly. They both sleep with us. We are sending him to school, but he really doesn't care for it; however, he is really learning quickly. He is everything and much more than we anticipated-a very loving little fellow that just needed a chance for a good home. He carries something in his mouth constantly. What a joy he is to us, and now we have two little treasures.
Thanks a million.  ~  Don and Judy

Tilly

Hi Teresa,
We just spent a wonderful few days out at our cabin by Beaver Lake. We got to chase phantom squirrels, fetch sticks, play in the water to our hearts content. Very few rules and regulations there. Even got to sleep on the couch any time we wanted. We were thinking about you and just thought you might like to hear from us. Come and see us sometime. Life is good!

~  Love from Tilly and Skyla

Amos

Hi Teresa,

Amos is great. He still carries a ball in his mouth almost every where he goes. He even sleeps with one just to make sure he's ready to play when he wakes up. He's a great buddy. Thanks to you and Don for taking care of him for us.

Bunker

Hi Teresa & Paula,
I have two very happy dogs who are curled up together on the sofa side by side, tired from playing!. Journey and Lexi hit it off immediately and are great buddies. She is learning new things already and loves training time with treats and fun. She is quite the character and everyone has fallen in love with her.
Our travel home went really well. She didn't make a peep in her bag while flying and made lots of friends while waiting for boarding! She is so friendly! You and Paula do such wonderful work, and I so appreciate all the time put into Journey. She's wonderful! We couldn't be happier.

Most Sincerely,  Andee

XAVIER

Hi Teresa,  Xavier is working out so well for our family. We think he is really a smart dog. The boys really need a "rough and tumble" kind of dog like Xavier. He is active, but not hyper. The boys are absolutely crazy about Xavier. They take turns holding him in their lap while they do their homework.

Grayson and family ~ Grayson was adopted in 2007 from Ahimsa Rescue Foundation

Hi Teresa, Grayson has been doing very well. I also adopted a little female Weimaraner named Riley. They have become BEST friends and play nonstop. They definitely help keep each other company while I'm at work. We're one big happy family now! Grayson and Riley will be starting obedience training in a few months. They are fast learners. I feel they will do well. I'll definitely give Grayson a BIG kiss from you. He's my big kisser/cuddle bug! We had a wonderful first Christmas together. Santa brought huge stockings full of goodies! Grayson and Riley have filled my life with such joy and love. I can't imagine my life without them now. I'm truly blessed!   ~ Kara

Dominique with her new family.

ABBY (formerly Dominique)

My grandparents love Abby so much.  She was an angel sent from heaven.  They are so happy, and they call me just to let me know if she does something cute.  She is so affectionate, has great manners, and was completely potty trained.  What else can I say she is just stinkin' perfect for them.  Abby has her own spot in the bed, right by my grandpa's head.

Thank you again for allowing us the opportunity to adopt this wonderful animal.  Abby is a blessing to our entire family.

ZACH

Dear Mom Teresa...don't tell my new Mom that I have been on her computer tonight but I wanted to tell you myself about my new home. Chloe and McB are terrific playmates although I can't understand what those Scotties are actually saying. I need to BONE up on Gaelic I guess. Still we have great fun, especially Chloe and I who is really full of herself and thinks the whole world revolves around her. My new Mom sure doesn't think so. In fact, I've been getting a lot of extra attention.

I'm being very good and I'm sure this is where I want to be forever. I discovered this great pond and I can run across this one high place from one side to the other right through the water. It's so fun. The young Scottie, Chloe showed me the "ins and outs" of the neat doggie door and I'm real good at that now. I have so much freedom here. The yard has so many great places to run around and then jump out at the other ones! It's so funny when I surprise them.

Today I got my first car trip into town, just me and Mom. I just had to ride up front and look out! She wouldn't let me sit on her lap while she was driving the dog mobile although I tried to a couple times. Other than that I was a good boy. She went to a pet store and got me a brand new collar and a super tag that says, "I AM LOST" plus our phone number in case I'm so stupid I get loose. So now I guess I am an official resident of Washington State!

Also, I get to sleep at night right on her bed with the other two. WOW! It's so soft and comfy up there. When we wake up in the mornings, Chloe and I just roll around havin' a real good time and Mom watches us play until she finally gets up.

Well I better go now before she catches me online but I wanted to thank you so much for finding me such a great home.

Woof! Woof! from your old kid Zach!!
