HOW HARLAND GOT HIS NAME. This was going to be the day. He was
very frightened, but he just had to do it. It was so much worse for
things not to change, he had to take the chance. What if the other
dogs were wrong? What if there weren't really any "goodpeople" out
there? Maybe there weren't. He sure hadn't met any. Not at the puppy
mill, not since his escape, not when he tried to find enough garbage
just to keep him alive. All the people he had met either yelled or
threw things like rocks, or even chased him. Then there were the
terrible "car things", those things could hurt you so bad you couldn't
walk and then you just died of thirst and starvation. It was taking an
awful chance and if he kept thinking about it he wouldn't do it.
Finally it was time. He heard the soft flap of her wings and the sweet
voice of the Rescue Angel as she flew over looking for homeless and
abandoned animals. He was very frightened, but she might not come this
way again, it might be his last chance. He crawled out of the dirty
box he called "home" and lay on his belly in front of her. This was a
mistake, he was filthy, there were no "goodpeople", no one would ever
want him. He would just go back to his box. The Rescue Angel was so
beautiful he couldn't move. She took his sad, dirty face in her hands
and she kissed him. HIM, she kissed HIM. He had never been touched
kindly, much less kissed. It...was...wonderful. Then she said "You are
so handsome, you need a perfect name. Your perfect name is...Harland."
Yes, she was right, he knew that must be his name. The Rescue Angel
lifted Harland up in her arms and flew away with him. They flew to a
place called "Rescue". At "Rescue" there was lots to eat, so much in
fact that he hardly noticed the extra good bath he was given by the
Angel. Then the Angel placed him on a soft, warm bed and gave him more
hugs and kisses. It was the best! But the Angel said it would be
better, she would help him find a "forever" home where all the people
were good people, and there was lots and lots of good food. There would
be a soft bed and friends. Friends would be the best of all.
That's my story. That's me, that's good dog Harland. I am still kind
of shy and frightened, but I am ready to take a chance if I can get
more hugs and kisses. I am a gentle guy that has had it kind of rough,
but I believe in the Angel and I'm sure that if a "forever" home is
even half as good as Rescue then it must be just like heaven! If
you're looking for a friend with a sweet soul, then I'm your guy. I
would sure like it if you would come see me and practice your petting

THE MOST WONDERFUL DOG! He was "THE Most Wonderful Dog", but he didn't
know it. When he was young he was loved and given a lot of care and
training. He learned all his master had to teach him and would have
learned a lot more if he had been given the chance. Life was good!
Then one day his master just lost interest. There was no more
training, sometimes there was no food or water and worst of all...
there was no medicine to prevent heartworms. The neglect broke his
heart, what had he done? The gate was opened all the time, now, no one
cared where he went. One day he went for a walk and lost his way. He
couldn't find his home or his master. For days he wandered the
streets, no home, no master. He was lost, starving and sick. There
seemed no reason for him to go on. That was when the kind man found
him and took him to Rescue and Foster Mother. There was food, clean
water and medicine to cure him from the terrible heartworms. Foster
Mother said the best words of all..."You are THE MOST WONDERFUL DOG,
and I will help you find a home".
That's my story, that's me, that's good dog Moreland. I am recovering
and will soon be well and healthy again. I am trained, but I love to
learn and would like for you to teach me more. All I want is to be
your companion, give you love, and make you proud that I am your dog!

THIS IS ME, THIS IS LEXI, THIS IS VERY GOOD DOG LEXI. And this
is my story. I was treated badly by my family, but I still loved them.
Then one day they took me for a ride and turned me out to fend for
myself. It was very bad, there was very little shelter and only some
garbage to eat. I was scared and lonely. Then one day a nice family
saw me and didn't throw rocks or yell at me. I was afraid to get near
them, but I ate the food they left and I followed their car. I
followed it a whole 7 miles. Next time they saw me I was in some
bushes near their house, peaking out at them. I was so scared, I
wouldn't let them catch me. Days passed, they kept setting out food
and water, it was very hard for me to trust, but one day I was there
in their carport. I became friends with the man, I played ball with
him and slowly learned to trust him. However, that family had a small
child and didn't trust my large breed. They called the Sheriff's
Office about a place to take me, the Sheriff's Office told the nice
man to "shoot" me because there was no place to take me. The animal
shelters in the area were also full, they said to "shoot" me too! But,
the man was a nice man and would not shoot me. He kept looking and
finally found Foster Mother. Foster Mother took me to her wonderful
Rescue, she also gave me hugs and kisses. I told her I would not have
hurt nice man's small child, I would have protected small child.
Foster Mother said she knew that, but some people are just afraid. At
least nice man brought me to Rescue and now I have a chance to have a
real home. Foster mother tells me that I am a nice girl, and she gives
me kisses every single day. I like kisses and hugs. If you are looking
for a girl that is a good dog and would be very grateful to live with
a nice family and be their friend and protector, then please come see
me. Also it would be nice if you can play ball. Please come soon and

family when I was only a puppy. It was just another case of careless,
uncaring people allowing their dogs to breed, because they think they
have pure bred dogs. Then when they find out how much work puppies
are, they give the pups to anyone that will take them. I was given to
a family that didn't really want and was not prepared for a dog, but
who couldn't resist a cute little puppy. I am now 7 months old and
active, just like I should be. I was just more than they imagined,
more care and energy than they could handle, etc, etc, etc. They said
they were not "dog people" and needed to find another place for me.
So, here I am in Rescue. It was heart breaking, they were the only

CHICKEN LITTLE? Not the ones that were after me! I'm good dog
Sabra, and you gotta hear my story! My good friend Pip and I were
dumped, out in the country. (Why, oh why, do people think that dumping
a dog in the country is a good idea? I'm here to tell you it's not!)
Anyway, we were lucky and some nice people took us in and tried to
find our home. They didn't have a fenced place for us so we had to
hang out with the chickens. Those chickens were bigger than me, I only
weigh 10 pounds, and they have very sharp beaks. Besides which, can
you believe? They like dog food! I was getting thinner and thinner,
while those chickens were getting fatter and fatter. They sure could
guard that food! After a couple of months, those folks realized I was
going to be dinner for the chickens, so they brought us to Rescue.
Things are much better now that I'm here in in a safe place with other
friendly dogs and not chickens. My ambition is to be a lap dog and be
loved on. If the only chicken at your house is served on a platter,

to save me from on-coming traffic. I was taken to safety in Rescue,

gotta tell you I am a happy girl with not much memory of my horrible

out in the country and joined up with my good friend Nashira. When we
were nearly starved we were found by a kind lady and taken in with 20
other rescued dogs. When we started to feel stronger and more
comfortable at the new place, we began to explore and look for fun
things to do. We found the chickens! Chickens are fun! They are
especially fun to chase. They always run, always! We were not going to
hurt the chickens and were only playing with them, however, chasing
chickens was not allowed, so we had to leave our happy rescued home.
The kind lady called Ahimsa Rescue and that's where we are today There
are no chickens at Ahimsa Rescue, but we are having a great time
playing with other furry friends of our own kind. We are hoping that
our stay will only be temporary, what we really want is a "forever"
home, and no more one way visits to the country. We would like to be
adopted together, but are willing to be separated. If you're looking

I am housetrained!
IT WAS AT THE WITCHES FAIR! There was a booth selling "fried
Twinkies", "fried pickles:, "fried butter" and "fried puppies". Thank
goodness that I was too young to read, but there was a nice lady there
that could. She scraped together every penny she had with her and
bought me to save my life. I lived with her for a year and we loved
other very much. But, finally the beatings from her 6 year old pug
just got too much. It broke both our hearts, but she knew I needed a
chance, so she brought me to Rescue. That's where I am now, waiting
for you to come meet me. I would really like a home with lots of love

so he brought me to Rescue. I was truly devoted, even to the witch,
but it didn't move her pea sized heart, not one bit. That's me, that's
good dog Lola. And here I am now, just waiting and hoping for someone
to love and care for. I would love a job as a companion and protector,

TICK TOCK, I'M NOT A PLACE FOR THE FLEAS TO DOCK!!! It was just
awful. First I was turned out into the streets to fend for myself.
Then the passengers started to board! Next thing you know I was
covered from head to foot. Here a tick, there a tick, everywhere a
flea and a tick. I was probably carrying more than my total weight! I
was sure they would drain every drop of my blood, but the worst was
the itching. I thought I would go insane. I found a lady that I
thought would help me, but she called Rescue and said if they didn't
come in 15 minutes she was going to shoot me!!! Well, believe it or
not, that was help, because Foster Mother came on the run. It's a
miracle she didn't get a speeding ticket, she came so fast. She
brought me, at arms length, back to Rescue and put me right into a big
bath. Next thing you know all my passengers were dead and gone. What a
relief! Next I was carefully checked out to be sure I didn't have any
diseases from all those miserable critters. The good news is that I'm
healthy as can be. Now that's another miracle! The next miracle is
that the Rescue folk say I can stay here till I find a good "forever"
home where I will never have another flea or tick as long as I live.
They say I'll be loved and cared for and have someone to love. Isn't
that great? That's all I've really ever wanted, just to have a human
that will give me hugs and kisses and let me keep their lap warm.
Could that maybe be you? If you have a little room in your home and

TERROR!! IN THE STREET!! An urgent S.O.S was sent out to the
Rescue Angel. A lady wanted her to check on a little dog that was in
the street and would not move. She did not know if the dog had been
hit by a car and was afraid to check closer. A nearby business
reported that a vehicle stopped nearby and when they left, there was
the dog, lying in the street. The Angel flew, as fast as her wings
would carry her! She found a little dog lying in the road, just like
the lady said. He had not been hit by a car or injured, but was simply
bewildered and utterly terrified. He did not know what to do or where
to go. The Angel swooped him up off the roadway and flew him to the
safety of Rescue.
That's how I got to Rescue. That's me, that's good dog Gunner. The
Angel says I must have more than one life. I sure hope so! When she
put me into Foster Mother's arms, she said I now have a whole new,
wonderful life ahead of me. Do you think that's possible? Maybe I'm
not so lovable, maybe I'm not cute enough. Why else would someone
throw me out on the road to be killed? I don't know, I've always tried
to be a good boy. I love humans. I just don't know. Foster Mother says
I'm a great little dog with a lot of good times and good years ahead
of me. She says you're out there looking for me. I sure hope so!

TORTURED BY TROLLS, that's what the first couple of months of
my life was like. I was just a tiny baby when the witch brought me
home and give me to her miserable little trolls. They tied me in the
yard, with no shelter from the weather. The trolls only fed me when
they though about it, and that wasn't very often. They did take the
time to come over and kick me on a very frequent basis though. The
witch thought about eating me, but thanks to the trolls I was just too
skinny. I had pretty much given up on everyone and everything when a
friend of the Rescue Angel saved my life. I never knew, but she had
been watching me from the first day and saw what monsters the trolls
were. She had been trying to save me all that time, and the witch
figured I wouldn't live much longer anyway, so I was sold to the
Angel's friend. What a revelation! I had no idea what kindness was, I
have been amazed every day since then. Now I know there are kind
people out there and I am anxious for a "forever" home with one of
them, or even a nice family. If that sounds like you, then please come

THE OGRE WAS BAKING, at least he was trying to bake. His witch
of a wife had left him and he wasn't sure just exactly how to do it
right. He had put the two dogs out into the full sun with no shelter.
It should have been all over with him sitting down to a nice meal of
rare dog by now, but one of the miserable animals kept escaping.
Finally someone took her to the pound and he wasn't going to pay any
money to get back what was already his. There was still the other dog
and his meal should be ready soon. After all the law wasn't strict
enough to keep him from baking the stupid animal alive, hopefully it
would never change. "It's a good thing animals don't have a voice." he
thought!
That's how I came to be in Rescue. That's me, that's good dog Sadie,
and I can only pray for the safety of my friend. I would like you to
know that I am a very good girl and extremely obedient, I have even
been through training. It is my dream to live in a safe, secure home
where I'll have love and shelter. If you have a place for me, and are
