June 13, 2009: Daisy, an emaciated, senior Arabian mare arrives at Ahimsa Rescue Foundation. Daisy was discovered after several animal cruelty/neglect reports were made to Ahimsa Rescue Foundation by concerned citizens. Ahimsa Rescue's animal cruelty investigator made a visit to Daisy and found her in a "dirt" pen without food. After speaking with Daisy's family it was agreed that Daisy would be turned over to Ahimsa Rescue Foundation. She had been fed only what she could eat in a few minutes while her owner stood by her. The other horses in her pen would eat her food when she was not attended. Her intake vet exam revealed a that she was a "1" on the Henneke Body Condition Scoring System, nearly starved to death. She was actually thinner than the normal photos usually used to demonstrate the degree of emaciation using the Henneke Body Condition Chart. Remarkably, at this point Daisy has no serious medical issues other than having been starved. She had a good blood test and has good teeth. She is currently in foster care at Ahimsa Rescue Foundation where advise and council is received from an equine specialist for nutritional soundness and welfare.
As updates are available, they will be noted on the Special Needs page and posted here. June 28, 2009: Daisy is gaining weight, feeling better, and enjoying a large lush pasture with 4 other horses at Ahimsa Rescue Foundation. July 4, 2009: Daisy is doing very well. She is eating and gaining weight. She seems to be very happy with her special feedings and pasture - check out her new photos. With good nutrition and love, Daisy is starting to fill out. Obviously, Daisy is enjoying her new surroundings. It probably has been a very long time since she had such great mouthfuls of nutritious grass to munch on! July 7, 2009 - Note from Foster Mom: Daisy's special diet and supplements continue. She is eating extremely well. One of Ahimsa Rescue's volunteers saw Daisy for the first time today and commented on her extreme thinness. I told her that she should have seen Daisy the day she arrived at Ahimsa Rescue. Daisy has improved a great deal and has gained a considerable amount of weight. Daisy is on the road to recovery. Her old dull coat is being replaced with a shiny darker coat. It appears that she will soon be sporting a beautiful shiny dappled gray coat as she returns to the beautiful, graceful and proud Arabian horse that she is. July 14, 2009: Daisy continues to gain weight and confidence. She seems to enjoy the attention she is getting. When she first came to Ahimsa rescue, it was all she could do to stand. Now, her natural pride is showing. Enjoy her most recent photos of her in her pasture and overlooking her "realm". |

| August 28, 2009:
Daisy continues to improve with each passing day. Although the
note below was intended as a private comment, it is included below
to showcase just how wonderful this old girl is and how she has
enriched the lives of those involved in her care.
Ahimsa Rescue Foundation appreciates the the donations received for Daisy's care, but more is needed. Please, if you have not already contributed, consider contributing to Daisy's care fund. No amount is to small help and be sincerely appreciated. It has been suggested that if donors would prefer to donate to other Ahimsa pets in need (or toward the general fund), that a donation for one of them in honor of Daisy would be equally helpful toward the overall rescue operations. Please visit the Special Needs page to donate toward a specific dog or Daisy or visit the Donate page for other ways to donate. |

| Foster Home Report: I don't really know what to say about Daisy with this update. She continues to be a wonderful horse who is gentle and a joy to be around. We are extremely happy to have the opportunity to help Daisy and wish we could help them all. Daisy makes us feel proud every time we are in the presence of her beauty, her sweetness and her gentleness. We are the fortunate ones. | ||

| Daisy at
about 75 days after her rescue and being taken to Ahimsa Rescue
Foundation. The photos below are the ones at the beginning of her rescue story, on the day she was rescued. The difference is remarkable. Daisy is becoming the gentle social creature she was meant to be. |
